چکیده

Rule k (k=1,2,3,...) is a well known family of approximation algorithms that can be used to find connected dominating sets in a graph. They were originally proposed by Dai, Li, and Wu as the basis for efficient routing methods for ad hoc wireless networks. In this paper we study the asymptotic performance of Rules 1 and 2 on random unit disk graphs formed from n random points in an `n × `n square region of the plane, and we show that: • Rule 1 does poorly in the following sense: if `n = o( √ n), then with asymptotic probability one, Rule 1 produces a connected dominating set consisting of n− o(n) vertices. • Rule 2 produces much smaller dominating sets on average: if `n = O( √ n/ log n), then Rule 2 produces a connected dominating set whose expected size is O(n/(log log n)). These results complement our results in a companion paper [18] where we consider the asymptotic performance of Rule k in the case where k ≥ 3. keywords and phrases: coverage process, dominating set, localized algorithm, performance analysis, probabilistic analysis, Rule 2, Rule k, unit disk graph

The Expected Size of the Rule k Dominating Set: I

Dai, Li, and Wu [11] [30] proposed Rule k, a localized approximation algorithm that attempts to find a small connected dominating set in a graph. In this paper we consider the “average case”performance of Rule k for the model of random unit disk graphs constructed from n random points in an `n × `n square. We show that if k ≥ 3 and `n = o(√n), then the expected size of the Rule k dominating set...

Strength of strongest dominating sets in fuzzy graphs

A set S of vertices in a graph G=(V,E) is a dominating set ofG if every vertex of V-S is adjacent to some vertex of S.For an integer k≥1, a set S of vertices is a k-step dominating set if any vertex of $G$ is at distance k from somevertex of S. In this paper, using membership values of vertices and edges in fuzzy graphs, we introduce the concepts of strength of strongestdominating set as well a...

k-TUPLE DOMATIC IN GRAPHS

For every positive integer k, a set S of vertices in a graph G = (V;E) is a k- tuple dominating set of G if every vertex of V -S is adjacent to at least k vertices and every vertex of S is adjacent to at least k - 1 vertices in S. The minimum cardinality of a k-tuple dominating set of G is the k-tuple domination number of G. When k = 1, a k-tuple domination number is the well-studied domination...

On the signed Roman edge k-domination in graphs

Let $kgeq 1$ be an integer, and $G=(V,E)$ be a finite and simplegraph. The closed neighborhood $N_G[e]$ of an edge $e$ in a graph$G$ is the set consisting of $e$ and all edges having a commonend-vertex with $e$. A signed Roman edge $k$-dominating function(SREkDF) on a graph $G$ is a function $f:E rightarrow{-1,1,2}$ satisfying the conditions that (i) for every edge $e$of $G$, $sum _{xin N[e]} f...

Some Analytical Results on a Localized Pruning Method for Connected Dominating Sets in MANETs

Generating a small size connected dominating set (CDS) for message routing in wireless ad hoc networks is always a challenging problem. In a recent paper, a local pruning algorithm called restricted rule-k has been proposed, and succeeds in generating a small size CDS. In this paper, a statistical analysis on the size of the CDS generated is presented. For a network of N nodes (where N → ∞) tha...
